Who is a Transfer-In Student

You are a Transfer-In student if you attended another college or university and are enrolling at SBCC to continue your education. Your completed coursework may be evaluated for credit toward a certificate or degree at SBCC, toward transfer or to meet prerequisites for classes at SBCC.   

  •  New transfer-in students are not required to meet with a counselor prior to registration; it is optional and will be provided as long as we have counseling appointments available. You are encouraged to register for spring classes as soon as possible. 

Transfer-In Student Checklist

  1. Transcript Evaluation
  • Submit official transcripts from ALL previously attended colleges to Admissions and Records.
  • If you attended a California Community College, you can have your transcripts evaluated by the Transcript Evaluation Office (TEO). 
  • If you need a prerequisite evaluated submit your request to the Transcript Evaluation Office (TEO).

  1. Academic Counseling Appointments 
  • New transfers who are currently enrolled in spring classes can book an advanced appointment in Starfish.
  • New transfers who are currently enrolled in spring classes can drop in to meet with a counselor during "same day services" from January 20-January 30. Your transcripts must be available from all previous institutions. We can help you adjust your schedule if needed. 
  • New transfers who will attend SBCC for summer 2026 ONLY, need to seek advising from their home institution.
  • New transfers who will attend SBCC for fall 2026 will be able to fill out the appointment request form in May 2026. 

 

  1. What to Expect at Your Appointment

Counselors will:

  • Create a student educational plan (SEP).
  • Start the transcript evaluation process, once your official transcripts are on file and you are enrolled for the spring semester.

 

  1. Transcript Evaluation Process
  • If you attended a California Community College, your transcripts will be evaluated by the Transcript Evaluation Office (TEO)
  • It can take up to 5 weeks for non California Community College transcripts for specific courses requiring SBCC department review.

Important : For coursework completed outside the California Community College system, providing course syllabi can speed up the process. Syllabi for Math and English and Oral Communication courses are REQUIRED for course evaluation.
